Arsenal Transfer News: Mesut Ozil £42.4 Million Signing To Be Confirmed

BBC's David Ornstein. Gunner's manager Arsene Wenger has come in for intense criticism in recent weeks over the lack of new signings at Emirates Stadium this summer but he looks set to finally splash the cash on the Germany international. The Londoners are set to break their club-transfer record after agreeing a £42.4 million deal with Real for the services of the 24-year-old, who scored nine La Liga goals last season. Ozil has agreed personal terms with Arsenal but must undergo a medical before the Gunners can confirm his signing, while BBC Sport's David Ornstein goes on to report "the documentation is being signed and completed as we speak."

"Arsenal are preparing to confirm the signing of Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid. The Gunners are set to make an announcement in the coming hours. The documentation is being signed and completed as we speak."
The deal would easily dwarf the £17.5 million Arsenal paid Sevilla for Jose Antonio Reyes in 2004, with the Spain international being the Gunner's costliest purchase to date. The arrival of Ozil would give Gooners some much needed cheer this summer, with striker Yaya Sanogo, 20, and midfielder Mathieu Flamini, 29, being the only new arrivals so far, both arriving on free transfers. Ozil is set to fall down the pecking order at the Bernabeu if he stays, after Madrid signed Gareth Bale from Tottenham for a world-transfer-record £85 million.
