Arsenal Transfer News: M’Villa Move Edges Closer After Bayern Pull Out

Bayern Munich have pulled out of the race to sign highly rated French midfielder Yann MVilla, according to reports. Rennes captain MVilla is believed to be Arsenals number one transfer target this summer, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and up until today, most significantly Bayern Munich also believed to be interested in him. While the reports of Barcelonas and Real Madrids interest have died down significantly over the past couple of weeks, Bayern Munich seemed to be committed to entering a bidding war with Arsenal for MVillas signature. However MVillas agent told the press today that Bayern were looking for someone with different abilities and are no longer interested. This will be music to Arsene Wengers ears, as it will mean that MVilla will come at a considerably lower price than had been expected: somewhere in the region of £12 million as opposed to the £20 million previously touted. Theres no doubt in the quality that MVilla would bring to the Arsenal squad, he would add much needed steel in midfield and compete with Arteta, Song and Wilshere for places in the starting line-up. The age old problem for Arsenal that is strength in depth would be a large step closer to being solved. Many believe that Arsenals next signing could be in the attacking midfield position, with CSKA Moscows Alan Dzagoev being the main name being mentioned. Dzagoev shone in Russias group games and scored 3 goals in as many games. At 22 years of age, he would also seem to be one for the future. However, one would think that Wengers focus would now turn to the defence, with Lilles Mathieu Debuchy being touted as a target to cover for Bacary Sagna at right back; Arsenals transfer business could be done and dusted very soon. The news of Bayern pulling out of the race for MVilla will be exactly what Arsenal fans want to hear as MVilla will be Arsenals third major summer signing, and this is before the transfer window has even opened! Also, if rumours are to be believed, then the cumulative price of Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Yann MVilla could total up to the same amount as Chelsea paid for Eden Hazard- and that is clever transfer business.
