Arsenal Transfer News: Theo Walcott Set To Sign New Deal?

London Evening Standard. It is understood the England winger has agreed to the "framework" of the deal, which is currently in the hands of lawyers, and could be worth somewhere in the region of £20 million with the player picking up £100,000-per-week. Walcott is understood to have asked the club's hierarchy for a more advanced forward role in Arsene Wenger's side, and although the new contract doesn't specifically assure the player that he will play in his preferred new position, Wenger has previously insisted the club's current top goalscorer will get his wish. The news will come as welcome relief to Arsenal fans who had long been concerned they were about to lose another of their star players following Walcott's failure to sign a new deal, prompting speculation that he was about to join Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri in walking out on the club. And Wenger suggested there may be further activity from his side in the January transfer window. Commenting after his side's 1-0 win over Swansea in the FA Cup last night, he remarked:

"We are working very hard. First of all we want to sort out the injuries and we are trying very hard to close the deal with Walcott. Once we have done that, we will certainly do something else. At the moment I cannot tell you more.€
