Arsenal Transfers: Gunners Finally Complete £12m Mathieu Debuchy Deal

Frenchman joins as replacement for Bacary Sagna.

As expected Mathieu Debuchy is a Gunner. After weeks of speculation the 28 year old has finally become Arsenal's second summer signing for a reported fee of £12million from Newcastle United, who have also moved to replace him with Dutch international full-back Daryl Janmaat immediately. French full-back Debuchy had already indicated that he will join the Gunners, replacing the Manchester City departed Bacary Sagna, and now it seems that the protracted transfer saga is at an end, with the final touches completed to the deal. Arsenal fans have been waiting for the announcement for over a week now, with speculation hitting fever pitch around the new Puma kit launch that Debuchy had undergone his medical and agreed terms with the club. A like for like switch, Mathieu Debuchy holds many of the same characteristics as the man he is replacing, Bacary Sagna: he is defensively sound, boasting superb statistics in his aerial ability, robust tackling ratios and brick wall like interception rates. Offensively, he offers a great engine, striding up and down the pitch with purpose and unrelenting energy. The transfer takes the clubs spending to around £40million so far this summer, with other players expected to arrive in the coming weeks; namely World Cup winner Sami Khedira. Arsenal fans should expect more movement in the transfer market this year, with Ivan Gazidis promising more new faces. For now though, here are 10 things that every Arsenal fan needs to know about their new right back, Mathieu Debuchy.
