Arsenal Transfers: Gunners Now Favourites To Land Huntelaar

And what the hell is happening with Danny Welbeck?

Arsene Wenger loves a last minute business deal. Unfortunately last time out the results of that obsession were the limping shape of Kim Kallstrom, but there has been better fruit in the past, and there probably will be in the future. This time out the manager's hand has been forced, as the injury to Olivier Giroud has meant that he has had to go into the market for a striker at the last minute, rather than face a season of watching Yaya Sanogo try and convince everyone he's any good. In light of deadline day developments, there's been a lot of betting activity on potential strikers coming in to the Emirates, and the latest news is that Sky Bet have had a flourish of activity on Klaas-Jan Huntelaar joining Arsenal. That would be a great move for Wenger, but it would have to be a bit of a miracle to get him over the line, unless the deal has been in the offing all day. The news earlier was that Arsenal had snatched Man Utd's Danny Welbeck from under great rivals' Spurs nose, but then the mooted medical was denied by Arsenal, amid reports that there wasn't actually a deal in place. And now former Gunners striker Alan Smith has spoken to Sky Sports to confirm that he has been told the Welbeck deal is done. Quite what the reality is remains to be seen. What price on Arsenal not signing any striker at all?
