Arsenal Transfers News: £12 Million Yohan Cabaye Bid Launched
Arsenal have made a £12 million bid for Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye, according to Sky Sports sources and the Daily Star. The move comes as pressure mounts on manager Arsene Wenger to make a notable purchase in this summer's transfer window, following his side's 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium on the opening day of the Premier League. The Arsenal Supporters' Trust today made a statement asking the board to end negotiations over a new contract for Wenger, who is out of contract next May and will have been in the job for nine years. But the veteran Frenchman has so far failed to make any noteworthy signings this summer, save for the arrival of Yaha Sanogo on a free transfer from Auxerre. Cabaye has been touted with a move to one of last season's top four clubs with Manchester United being linked with the 27-year-old in recent months. Newcastle cannot offer the France international European football this season and narrowly avoided relegation last season, which could lead to Cabaye assessing his options. Cabaye joined the Magpies from Lille in 2011 and has made 60 Premier League appearances for the North East club, scoring ten times. He has also been capped 23 times by France.
