Aston Villa Transfer News: Tottenham Striker Deal Nearing Completion

Adebayor looks set to join Villa on loan.

Villa are closing in on a loan deal for Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor, according to the Daily Mail. Tim Sherwood's side have already tied up a deal for Jordan Ayew following the departure of Christian Benteke to Liverpool and this particular deal could be confirmed this week to cement the Villains' forward options. According to the article the Midlands club are confident of the signing despite the striker's hefty wages (although Villa may not be paying these in full). The deal is reportedly a loan with an option to make the move permanent. A move for the Togo striker would make a change from some of the younger prospects linked with the club in recent weeks. Adebayor played well under Sherwood at Tottenham and the Villa manager will no doubt hope that he can get the best from the striker as he looks to fill the Benteke void. So far he has only made three league appearances in 2015 so a loan option does seem a more sensible option for Sherwood. While the signing might not live up to the expectations of Villa fans, the striker may feel he has a point to prove and it could be a shrewd move by Sherwood, if he can get the striker in the right frame of mind. Meanwhile, Villa have confirmed the capture of former Lorient striker Ayew while a deal for Cordoba defender Jose Angel Crespo also looks likely.
