Barcelona Transfers: Real Betis Defender Junior Firpo Joins In £27.5 Million Move

Left-back brought to Nou Camp for potential £27.5m fee.

Barcelona have finalised a deal for Real Betis' left-back Junior Firpo. The Spain Under-21 international has signed on a five-year contract for a £27.5m fee. [Source: BBC Sport]

A mammoth £183m buy-out clause has been added into the new signing's contract.

The 22-year-old was born in in Santo Domingo, Dominica, migrating to Andalusia at the age of six before joining Betis' youth setup in 2014. He made 29 appearances for the Seville side last season, scoring three times in the process.

Firpo is the Catalans' sixth signing of the summer, and brings their total transfer spend for the window up to €255,000,000. Striker Antoine Griezmann joined the club for £107m from Atletico Madrid last month, alighting alongside Ajax's Frenkie de Jong (£65m) and goalkeeper Neto.

Meanwhile, Brazilian winger Malcom has went the other way, joining Zenit St Petersburg last Tuesday for a reported £36.5m fee. He spent just one season at the Nou Camp.
