Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Confirm Andre Schurrle Signing

BBC. The striker joins in an £18 million deal, and becomes returning Blues manager Jose Mourinho's first signing. The German international had been linked with a move to the Europa League champions for months but there were concerns Mourinho's return would affect the transfer. There were also fears the deal would fall through at one stage due to Chelsea youngster Kevin De Bruyne's reluctance to join the German outfit on loan, something of which was said to be conditional to the deal going through. However, a statement on the club's official website states that the deal will be completed subject to the 22-year old passing a medical and agreeing personal terms. A statement from Leverkusen announced the player's departure as well as confirming the signing of Hamburg's South Korean striker Heung-Min Son, who will be brought in as a like-for-like replacement. De Bruyne is not part of the deal after Mourinho blocked the youngster's departure from the club. Chelsea remain hopeful they can still sign striker Edinson Cavani from Napoli, which along with Schurrle's capture would seem to put the futures of Demba Ba and Fernando Torres in fresh doubt.
