Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Give Up On Edinson Cavani?

Daily Mail. The Blues have had a £42.8 million bid rejected by the Italians and now French outfit PSG have tabled an offer of £43 million. Roman Abramovich does not want to be dragged into a bidding war and will now pursue other targets, which include Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and Borussia Dortmund's Robert Lewandowski. Blues owner Abramovich smashed the British transfer record when he signed Fernando Torres from Liverpool for £50 million but he is wary of spending huge swathes of cash on another 26-year-old. Like Cavani, Torres was also 26 when he moved to Stamford Bridge and his market value has rapidly depreciated after a series of below-par performances. Chelsea's pursuit of Rooney and Lewandowski faces immediate difficulties however. United don't want to strengthen a domestic rival in the title race by selling while Lewandowski clearly has his heart set on a move to Bayern Munich. Manchester City, whose striker Edin Dzeko is another Chelsea target, have also been linked with Cavani but they will now have to out-muscle PSG in the bidding war if they are serious about their interest. Real Madrid are thought to be Cavani's preferred destination if he leaves Naples.
