Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Step Up Falcao Pursuit With Massive Spree Planned

Chelsea poised to land Falcao?

London Evening Standard. The news comes as Chelsea look poised to sell Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool in January. The £12million the Blues are likely to receive from his sale will be reinvested in "at least" three other players, according to reports, with the Colombian topping owner Roman Abramovic's shopping list. The Atletico striker has plundered 20 goals in 16 appearances in La Liga this term, and has caught the attention of Real Madrid. However, reports suggest his club would rather sell him to a foreign rival than a domestic one. Club officials have already traveled to Madrid to open formal negotiations with Atletico, and Abramovic is even prepared to fly the player to London for a tour of the City and the clubs ground. It has also been reported that the Russian Billionaire is happy to foot Falcao's £48million release clause and pay him £175,000 a week. Chelsea would be paying close to the sum they handed Liverpool for Fernando Torres, who has struggled for form in recent seasons. The prospect of Falcao joining him up front though is bound to excite the club's supporters. Meanwhile, Chelsea have been monitoring the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Edinson Cavani, Theo Walcott, Loic Remy, Andre Schurrle and Demba Ba as possible additions to the squad, as they look to reverse their fortunes in the Premier League. They currently trail leaders Manchester United by thirteen points, and face Leeds in the Quarter Finals of the Capital One Cup tonight, just three days after their defeat in the final of the Club World Cup to Brazilian's Corinthians.
