Chelsea Transfer News: Edinson Cavani's £53m Release Clause Expires August 10th

Mirror. The Uruguayan forward is one of the hottest properties on this summer's transfer market and along with Premier League sides Chelsea and City has also been tracked by Spanish giants Real Madrid. Just last week, de Laurentis appeared to rule City out of the running for Cavani's signature because they are unwilling to meet the huge £53 million asking price, something even Chelsea have balked at. But both appear to be back in the running now after the president of the Serie A side sensationally revealed the release clause only stands until August 10th. De Laurentis has urged Cavani to make his mind up over his future by mid-July, and to "be a man" and not "make a joke out of him" by leaving on the cheap before the transfer window slams shut. He said:

"I don't think Cavani will leave on August 10th, when his buyout clause expires. "I'm confident in him, because I consider him a real man. He won't make a joke of me. "Should Cavani want to leave, he will decide it after a long period of reflection. But by July 20th we will probably know everything about his future."
News that Cavani could be available for an unknown, but nevertheless knock-down fee come August 10 should provide Chelsea and City all the encouragement they need to continue their pursuits of the striker, who netted 29 league goals last season. The transfer window closes on August 31. Cavani is currently on Confederations Cup duty with Uruguay, who contest an all-South American semi-final with tournament favourites Brazil on Wednesday.
