Chelsea Transfer News: Jose Mourinho To Bid Again For Wayne Rooney

Chelsea are to revive their interest in Wayne Rooney next summer after it emerged Manchester United have still to offer their striker a new contract, according to the Mirror. The Blues were heavily linked with a move for Rooney over the summer and made repeat bids for the England international, but United held firm and refused to sell to their title rivals. However, with Rooney's current deal at Old Trafford set to expire in 18 months, Jose Mourinho's side have been alerted by the fact the English champions have made no attempt to tie the star down to a new contract. And unless United make their move soon, Rooney could be left to choose between the two Premier League heavyweights, and decide if the Red Devils are as committed to him as he has shown himself to be to them this season. David Moyes's side risk going into the summer with Rooney's contract ticking down into its final 12 months if they have still failed to extend his stay at the Theatre of Dreams - the same situation Arsenal found themselves in last year when Robin van Persie pushed through his transfer to United. There will be no January bid from Chelsea, however, with Mourinho resigned to the fact he will likely have to stick with Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto€™o and Demba Ba for the rest of this season.
