Chelsea Transfer News: Massive Boost In Right-Back Bid

Marseille admit Spanish right-back Cesar Azpilicueta may be sold.

According to the Daily Mail, Champions league holders Chelsea have received a massive boost in their attempts to sign Marseille's 22-year-old Spanish right-back Cesar Azpilicueta after the French club admitted they may cash in on the Spanish Olympic team member. The Mail claim that Roberto Di Matteo sees the player, who Marseille signed from first club Osasuna in 2010 for ‚7 million as the ideal replacement for Jose Bosingwa, who left Stamford Bridge earlier in the summer transfer window after his contract expired. The boost comes after Marseille's sporting director Jose Anigo openly admitted that the player, who the Mail suggest is valued at £7 million might well be sold to raise funds to boost his own transfer war chest for new signings:
'Everybody has to sell before buying,' he told RTL. 'In effect, it could either be (Stephane) M€™Bia and Azpi. But for now, nothing has changed.'
Bosingwa's departure has left Chelsea shorter in defence than they were last year, and with potentially six competitions to compete for (including the UEFA Super Cup and World Club Cup), Roberto Di Matteo may well need to extend his squad options. So far this summer, he has made four acquisitions, having already signed attacking midfielder Marko Marin as well as both Eden and Thorgan Hazard and Brazilian Oscar, but judging by the number of reports linking Chelsea with moves for fresh talent, his transfer business is not yet complete. So what do you think Chelsea fans? Would Cesar Azpilicueta represent a good signing, and competition for Branislav Ivanovic? Share your thoughts below.
