Everton 2-0 Norwich City: Roberto Martinez Talks Transfers

Everton manager Roberto Martinez spoke of his joy after securing the services of Aiden McGeady after the club announced they had secured the player from Russian outfit Spartak Moscow. The Toffees unveiled their new signing before their 2-0 victory against Norwich City, which saw them move into the Champions League places. McGeady was initially in line to join in the Summer but the situation changed. Martinez said:
"Full credit to the chairman and the board. We agreed for him to join in the Summer but the situation with Spartak where he wasn't going to be involved too much and with Nikica Jevalic agreeing terms with Hull we were quite happy to make it happen now. I do feel the money is well spent and it was a real boost to have him available straight away."
The Spainard continued to talk about his aims in the transfer window as he eyes a new striker to bolster his team, especially now Nikica Jelavic seems to be on his way to Hull. He said:
"We agreed the move for Jelavic last night. McGeady would've been a free transfer in the Summer but bringing him in means we don't have pressure to bring in a number nine straight away." "I spoke with Jelavic this morning and he feels the move is what he needs as he aims to play against Brazil in the first game (of the World Cup)."
The Everton manager also spoke about the injured Ross Barkley, who missed the game today with a toe injury. Martinez said:
"He could be out for a while and it could be a broken toe. He will be assessed this week but we are worried."
