Formula One – they used to say it was boring. When the red Ferrari of Schumacher romped to his dozens of titles (so it seems) it was indeed tiresome, but not anymore! With the introduction of electronic aids for overtaking, a tightening of the rules, and the unpredictability of the Pirelli tyres in recent seasons the racing has improved and excitement has grown.

Although it is only the halfway stage there is reason to say the 2012 Championship is set to be the best F1 season ever. Here’s why…

7. Six Champions

With the return of Kimi Raikkonen, to join Jensen Button, Sebastien Vettel, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher, the narrative at the start of the season was the unprecedented presence of six former World Champions. And boy have they not disappointed.

Alonso has driven magnificently to lead the championship; Vettel, Hamilton and Button have all won races; Raikkonen looks like it is only a matter time before he wins; and Schumacher has secured his first podium since his return to F1.

With all six drivers looking to challenge at the front, the level of racing has been phenomenal and certainly lived up to the pre-season hype.
