Liverpool Transfer News: £11 Million Fee Agreed For Simon Mignolet

Teamtalk reports tonight. The two Premier League clubs have finally reached an agreement over the transfer of the 25-year-old Belgian international stopper after weeks of negotiations. Mignolet will now travel to Merseyside next week to undergo a medical and talk over personal terms. For Sunderland, the sale of Mignolet gives the Black Cats a profit of around £9 million after they signed him from Sint-Truiden for just £2 million three years ago. In his time at the club, Mignolet has been immense, getting better with every season and given his success in the Sunderland shirt and his massive profit, he must prove to be one of Sunderland's best ever acquisitions. Wearsiders boss Paolo DiCanio will now need to find a new number one at the Stadium of Light next season, though he has had several weeks to mull it over as Mignolet's sale has looked inevitable given the Anfield club's persistent interest. One option for the Italian boss could be to promote Kieran Westwood to number one, though he may prefer to bring in his own signing. For Brendan Rodgers, Mignolet's likely signing could be his third acquisition already this summer with Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas and Sevilla's Luis Alberto looking sure to join. The signing of a new goalkeeper does though put the future of long-standing number one Pepe Reina in doubt.
