Liverpool Transfer News: £30 Million Willian Move?

Telegraph. Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is believed to have made an enquiry with the Russian club into the 25-year-old ahead of a possible bid before the transfer window closes on September 2. And Liverpool could take advantage of the recent financial troubles that have stricken Anzhi, who are undergoing major financial restructuring in an effort to slash costs. Willian only joined the Russians in January from Shakhtar Donetsk but has been put up for sale. Tottenham manager Andre-Villas-Boas is understood to be a bid admirer of the playmaker and could give Liverpool competition by entering the race, while Rodgers wants Willian as he is looking to make one significant signing this summer. The Northern Irishman has spent £24 million on the likes of Simon Mignolet, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto but none of his purchases so far can really be considered "marquee signings". But Rodgers has been assured of more funds in order to buy a "big name" this summer to boost the Red's efforts to compete for a top four finish this season. And Willian, a left-sided winger, could be brought in as a direct replacement for Stewart Downing, who has completed his £5 million move to West Ham United.
