Liverpool Transfer News: Reds In Battle To Sign Victor Wanyama

Mirror. The Reds had been interested in the midfield enforcer, and news that the Saints recently sent scouts to watch him play against Motherwell last weekend will likely set alarm bells ringing at Anfield. Reports suggest Mauricio Pochettino is readying an audacious £10 million bid for the midfielder, as they look to nail down their future in the top flight next season. Wanyama, who can play either as a defensive midfielder or at centre back, has also been tracked by Manchester United and Arsenal in recent times following his impressive displays for the Hoops both domestically and throughout their run to the latter stages of this season's Champions League. With Jamie Carragher retiring at the end of the season and Steven Gerrard in the twilight of his playing career, Liverpool are in the market for both a new centre back and defensive midfielder, and Wanyama's versatility would seem to suit the Reds going forward. But Brendan Rodgers will have to act fast if he wants to land the star after the surprise interest from rivals Southampton.
