Considered one of the most exciting defenders in Europe, Liverpool will be furious to have missed out on yet another top quality defender, having also missed out on Brazil centre back Dede, who recently opted to move to Cruzeiro instead. Carragher is set to retire from football at the end of the current campaign having played more than 700 games for the Anfield club. He has been with Liverpool his entire career having broken through the youth ranks in 1996.
