Liverpool Transfers: £8.5m Loic Remy On His Way To Anfield

Frenchman set to join as Luis Suarez's replacement.

Newly flush with a gigantic transfer war chest thanks to the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, Liverpool have already proved to be one of the most busy clubs in the summer transfer window. Brendan Rodgers has already brought in Emre Can, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic, and is strongly linked to both Divock Origi and Dejan Lovren, as well as a host of striking options, and it looks like one is about to join the club. Fresh from a disappointing World Cup in which he didn't play the time his self-appointed billing suggested he should have, Loic Remy is on the verge of signings for the Reds after Rodgers' team agreed a deal to sign him from QPR for £8.5m. Last season Remy was on loan at Newcastle, where he scored 14 goals in just 26 starts for the club, around injuries and self-imposed rests ahead of the World Cup, and the North East side had been linked with rekindled interest in him, even though they moved to sign Emmanuel Riviere from Monaco this week. But it appears that Remy will get his desire to play in the Champions League, but with Liverpool rather than Arsenal as had been expected earlier in the summer. As the Londoners balked at Remy's £80,000 a week wages, Arsene Wenger ended his interest in the striker, paving the way for a move to Liverpool, who need further attacking options even with their new acquisitions. Liverpool clearly believe - and rightly - that he's worth more than Arsenal would be willing to pay him, especially with a transfer fee of only £8.5m, and the Premier League experience he boasts. In a world where Ross McCormack costs £11m, Remy should probably be worth £300k a week, if he was to score at the same rate that he did for Newcastle.
