Liverpool Transfers: Reds Eye £12m Jovetic

Rodgers swooping in for misfiring City forward.

After a somewhat disastrous campaign, The Reds are already preparing for life without talismanic skipper Steven Gerrard with a £12m move for Manchester City outcast, Stevan Jovetic, according to The Mirror.

The Montenegrin international has only featured 39 times for City over the course of an injury-ravaged two seasons, scoring 11 goals, and holds a decent career total of 74 strikes in 227 outings.

LA Galaxy-bound Gerrard is all too aware of Jovetic€™s quality after the forward dazzled in a 2009 Champions League victory over Liverpool, scoring both goals in a 2-0 win for previous club, Fiorentina.

Gerrard, speaking in 2013, stated: €œHe (Jovetic) is a wonderful technician and a world-class player."

Having signed for the Manchester club in a bumper £22m deal in 2013, Jovetic has failed to establish himself as a regular, and was cut from City€™s Champions League squad in February to be replaced by new signing Wilfried Bony.

Although it is rumoured that Jovetic would favour a return to Italy, with Inter Milan and Champions League finalists Juventus rumoured to be keen on a deal, it is believed Liverpool hope to steal in and capture his signature.

This summer transfer window should initiate an exodus of Liverpool players, with forward flops Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert probably up for the chop, and The Reds are intent on bringing in Jovetic to replenish their repertoire of attacking options.

City are on the verge of a summer clear-out, too, and boss Manuel Pellegrini has deemed striker Jovetic surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium, paving way for a cut-price deal to Liverpool.

Liverpool boss, Brendan Rodgers, has previously admitted his priority this summer is to bring in a top-class striker, and the 25-year-old would represent a major signing as he possesses the ability to form a lethal partnership with England international, Daniel Sturridge.
