Lyon vs Tottenham Hotspur - Team News, Match Preview And Likely Line-Ups

Venue: Stade de Gerland Date: Thursday, February 21st Time: 6pm TV: ITV 4

Team News

Tottenham Hotspur go in to the match with no new injury worries as only striker Jermain Defoe (who is due to return to training next week), Tom Huddlestone and long-term absentees Sandro and Younes Kaboul are sidelined for the game tonight. Second choice goalkeeper Brad Friedel is set to continue in goal, denying Hugo Lloris the opportunity to face his old team, while Emmanuel Adebayor is set to continue as the lone frontman. Lyon have no new injuries to report either, ensuring that Tottenham will be going up against more or less the same team that they defeated last week. source - bbc sport

Match Preview

Tensions will be running high after 50 masked Lyon fans attacked a group of travelling Spurs fans in the French city's Smoking Dog pub last night (thankfully there were no serious injuries), but this will not detract from the fact that the majority of the focus will be on Gareth Bale after his recent run of sensational form and two superb strikes against Lyon last week. Spurs take a delicate 2-1 lead to the Stade de Gerland and while they haven't played since, Lyon achieved an emphatic 4-0 win over Bordeaux on Sunday, in a match which saw Clement Grenier come in to the team and bag himself a brace, which could see him start ahead of the man he replaced in that match - former Spurs star Steed Malbranque. Andre Villas-Boas will be hoping that Tottenham keep up their recent good form in order to progress in the Europa League and take some momentum in to Monday's London derby at West Ham.
