Man Utd Latest - David Moyes Facing The Sack

Rumours are circulating this evening that Man Utd have finally lost patience with manager David Moyes. It is being widely reported by a host of national papers that €˜The Chosen One€™ will be given his marching orders after another dismal display, this time against his former side on Sunday. When pressed on Moyes€™ long term future at Utd, a club spokesperson would only confirm that the ex-Everton man had not been sacked and that there would be no comment on the growing speculation. With only four games left in the current campaign, The Daily Mail have gone as far to report that Moyes will be sacked before the end of the season, and The Daily Mirror assert that if this is the case, Ryan Giggs will be placed in temporary charge of the first team. The Telegraph are reporting that Jurgen Klopp is the favoured replacement for Moyes, having earned widespread admiration for his Dortmund team. Jamie Jackson of The Guardian, a trusted source on all matters Utd, previously reported that Moyes had been under intense scrutiny from the board since the hapless 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool last month. Since then a spirited display home and away against Bayern Munich merely papered over the cracks and Utd have rolled from one poor result to the next. A team that won the league by 11 points last season now finds itself 23 points of the pace, floundering in seventh position. It has been the manner of the performances that has most frustrated fans during the current campaign, with Utd succumbing to a string of embarrassing defeats. Consequently, Utd will finish this season with their lowest ever points tally since the Premier League began, even with maximum points from their last four league games. Defeat to Everton mathematically confirmed that Utd will not be playing Champions League football next season, the first time they have failed to qualify since 1995. Ultimately, this may be the final nail in the coffin for Moyes as qualification for Europe€™s premier club competition was surely regarded as a minimum requirement at the start of the season. The timing of any sacking would be peculiar but it would seem that with thoughts already turning towards next season and the significant rebuilding of a dilapidated squad, there is now concern that Moyes is not the man to be trusted with a vast transfer kitty. Tomorrow marks a year since the outgoing Alex Ferguson secured Utd's 20th league title but the current mood around Old Trafford could not be further from the joyous scenes witnessed 12 months ago. Ferguson called for his successor to be given time but if the speculation is to be believed, Moyes€™ tenure in Manchester looks to be heading towards a premature conclusion.
