Man Utd New Manager: Everton Confirm David Moyes Will Leave

their official Twitter account that David Moyes will leave the club at the end of the season. The 50-year old, who has spent almost 12 seasons with Everton after taking over from Walter Smith in 2002, is set to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson as manager of Manchester United. The Scotsman had earlier this week been installed as the bookmaker's favourite to succeed Ferguson, who yesterday retired after more than 26 years in charge. Moyes Moyes held talks with Toffee's chairman Bill Kenwright last night and has taken the decision to become United's first new manager in over quarter of a century. Ferguson, who won 38 trophies during his reign at Old Trafford, will now become a director and ambassador for the club at the end of the season. He will mark his 1,500th - and last - game in charge of United on the final day of the Premier League season at the Hawthorns. Moyes started his playing career at Celtic and finished at Preston, where he played alongside young loan signing David Beckham between February and March 1995. He would later guide Preston to the Division One play-off final in 2001, before replacing Walter Smith at the helm of Goodison Park in 2002. He later gave Wayne Rooney his Premier League debut in August 2002 before selling him to Manchester United two years later for £20 million.
