Man Utd Poll: Is Radamel Falcao A Good Signing?

Manchester United have agreed a loan move for Falcao... But is he what they need?

Manchester United have just agreed arguably THE blockbuster deal of the summer with AS Monaco's Radamel Falcao set to move to Old Trafford on a season-long loan deal later today. Reports suggest United are paying £12 million for the striker's services, though it is unclear at this stage if there is an option to make the move permanent. It's a staggering move. Falcao was linked with a series of other clubs including Real Madrid and United's "noisy neighbours" City, but the Red Devils have astonishingly beaten off the competition to land the prolific Colombian, who has already scored twice in three appearances for Monaco this season. During 2012-13, Falcao was one of the most dangerous forwards in Europe and struck 28 goals in 34 La Liga appearances for former club Atletico Madrid. This prompted Monaco to fork out £50 million to bring him to France 12 months ago but he is now set to complete a phenomenal move to England after just a year in France. But is he a good signing? He is the marquee name United fans have longed for of late having missed out on a number of top targets this time a year ago, with Cesc Fabregas, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo being linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams only for the Reds to miss out on all three. He's also already proven himself as an out-and-out goal-scorer and is every inch a world class player. But as Miguel Delaney of ESPN brilliantly opined in the wake of the news:
One look at United's attacking options is enough to make you salivate. Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Angel Di Maria and now Falcao is a forward line to give Premier League defences nightmares. But manager Louis van Gaal's biggest priority this summer was to sign another centre-back and a central midfielder. Because when you look beyond United's embarrassment of attacking riches the bottom starts to fall out. In defence United are shocking. That Tyler Blackett is currently first-choice at centre-half is frightful while the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are yet to be replaced. In central midfield Anderson and Tom Cleverley are appalling and Marouane Fellaini has bombed. This is another area in need of strengthening but so far van Gaal has elected to place all of his attentions on signing Falcao - a good player, yes, but the type of player United are most in need of? Hardly. So we thought we'd put the question to the floor. Is Radamel Falcao a good signing at United, or should LVG be looking to strengthen his squad in other areas instead? Let us know in our poll and as ever, share your thoughts in the comments thread, below.
