Man Utd Transfer News: David Moyes Wants Christian Benteke As No. 9

Manchester United manager David Moyes is eyeing up Christian Benteke as his new No.9 over concerns he may lose Wayne Rooney in the future, according to the Mirror. Moyes is a big fan of the Aston Villa striker, who has become something of a revelation since moving to the Premier League from Belgian side Genk last summer. And he is also aware of the fact he may lose Rooney either in the January window or next summer with the England striker's contract steadily running down. League rivals Chelsea, who made two bids for the 27-year-old this summer, are expected to renew their interest in the player when the window reopens in four months. Meanwhile, Robin van Persie, 30, cannot be expected to go on forever, putting the champions in the market for a new striker. Moyes made a personal check on Benteke on Friday as Belgium took on Scotland. Villa would be reluctant to sell, having only just persuaded the 22-year-old to stay at the club by handing him a new £60,000-a-week deal back in July after the forward threatened to quit. But manager Paul Lambert knows it is inevitable he will field big offers for Benteke throughout the course of the next couple of windows.
