Man Utd Transfer News: Gareth Bale Wants To Join Red Devils?

Daily Star. Spurs last night refused to confirm or deny whether an official bid had been made by the Premier League champions, as we reported yesterday. The Londoners are desperate to hang on to the highly-rated Wales international, and chairman Daniel Levy has made it clear he will reject all offers for the 24-year-old. However, it has been reported that the winger is interested in a move to Old Trafford, which could put him on a collision course with his club if United firm up their interest. Levy is insistent he does not want to sell another of his star players again - especially to United - and is still fuming over the Dimitar Berbatov affair in 2008 which saw the Bulgarian walk out on the club in a £30 million deal. Although Spurs raked in a £19 million profit on the striker, it left supporters questioning the Lilywhite's ambitions at the time. It was believed Bale would give Tottenham one more season and then assess his options next summer, with Real Madrid also interested in his services. However, the former Southampton star is interested in joining United now, and wants to play in the Champions League, a competition he will miss out on next season for a second successive campaign if he stays at White Hart Lane. Though Bale has stated his desire to join United to those close to him, it remains to be seen if he is prepared to force through the issue and walk out on the club he joined six years ago. Levy wants to double Bale's wages to £150,000-a-week in a bid to keep him happy in North London.
