Man Utd Transfer News: 'No More January Signings' Says David Moyes

Manchester United manager David Moyes has promised he will make more signings "in time" but that he does not expect any more arrivals at Old Trafford this month, according to the BBC. United paid £37.1 million to land Juan Mata from Chelsea last week as Moyes looks to stamp his own impression on the squad he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson. And the former Everton boss, who replaced the retired Ferguson last summer, says Mata will be the first of many new signings at the club as he looks to build an exciting new team. But he warned fans not to expect any more progress in the January transfer window, which slams shut this Friday, and that new acquisitions are more likely in the summer. Moyes said shortly after wrapping up the deal for Mata:
This is the first, and there will be many more to come in time. I want to build an exciting team. I don't think we will have any more in January - I'm still working on it and looking to do so. Hopefully it will be the first of some new signings who will arrive more likely in the summertime. We see this as the start, we have to look to improve and I'm going to try to bring in some new players to make that happen.
United are currently 7th in the Premier League table, 14 points behind league leaders Arsenal and out of the two domestic cup competitions with just the Champions League left to contend for. And Moyes has been linked with a series of players who could help transform his stuttering side, such as Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, who signed a new five-year deal at St Mary's last year. The Scot has also been spotted in Germany at Bayern Munich's game against Borussia Monchengladbach recently, thought to be watching Bayern's Toni Kroos and Mario Mandzukic. Meanwhile, United are in the early stages of negotiations with Wayne Rooney as the champions seek to extend his stay at the club as Moyes looks to hold on to his key players.
