Man Utd Transfer News: Robert Lewandowski's Old Trafford Move Back On?
Telegraph. The Polish international had been heavily linked with a move to the Champions League winners but Dortmund president Hans-Joachin Watzke has ruled out that prospect. He told German sports paper Bild:
Lewandowski will definitely not go to Bayern in 2013, This is final. And that could pave the way for the 24-year old to move to the Premier League instead, and to Manchester United. The Premier League champions have been strongly linked with the striker over the last six months and looked favourites to sign him back in December, only for interest from Munich to apparently scupper the deal. The player had even reportedly agreed personal terms with the Bavarians and his move to the Allianz Arena seemed to be merely a question of "when" and not "if". But Watzke's comments will provide the Red Devils with renewed optimism in signing the star. Lewandowski has already told Dortmund that he wishes to leave the club this summer. Also speaking to Bild, he said last week:
We have been in agreement with the new club for some time now. I have informed the people in charge at Dortmund and I assume that all will now be cleared up and I can join the club of my wish this summer. This would be the best thing for all sides. Dortmund are a fantastic club that will always have a special place in my heart. However, I am looking for a new challenge in the future. The Pole has been in unstoppable form this season, scoring 36 goals in 48 overall appearances and eventually becoming runner up to Cristiano Ronaldo in last season's Champions League goalscoring charts. And United would clearly welcome him at Old Trafford given the ongoing contract dispute with Wayne Rooney. But if his move to Bayern does fall through, Chelsea could also make a move. The Blues have also been linked with the forward, as they seek to replace misfiring Fernando Torres ahead of next season.
