Manchester United boss Sir. Alex Ferguson has admitted that the Red Devils have made a bid to sign Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie but the movie has stalled.

has admitted that the Red Devils have made a bid to sign Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie but the move has stalled. The Dutch international striker who just turned 29-years-old on Monday was reported in the local Manchester news yesterday as being booked in for a medical in the city on Friday ahead of a rumoured move to one of the Manchester clubs. Ferguson didn't touch on that aspect of the story but did confirm that the Red Devils had made a bid for Van Persie that Arsenal had rejected and that The Gunners are trying to negotiate a sale for Van Persie with other clubs, presumably to increase his market value;

"We've made a bid, they have been trying to negotiate with other clubs," said United manager Ferguson. "I don't have a gut feeling about it. We can't get a breakthrough with Arsenal."
Speaking after the 0-0 draw and penalty defeat against Barcelona in a pre-season friendly in Gothenberg on Wednesday, Ferguson continued;
"I don't know what Arsenal's thoughts are because they're not giving anything away," "It's difficult to say why they're operating this way. I can't give you any more information. We just have to persevere. "We are trying our best and hopefully it will come our way but there's no progress at this moment in time."
Van Persie currently has eleven months left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium and has told the Arsenal hierarchy and boss Arsene Wenger that he has no plans to commit his future to the club. BBC Sport claim that Fergie first revealed an offer for Van Persie on July 20th and it is unknown at this time whether a new improved bid has been made for last season's PFA Player of the Year who notched 30 Premier League goals last season, his goals earning the club 27 points based on his goals and assists alone. It is believed that Arsenal are reluctant to enter talks over the sale of Van Persie until an offer comes in that exceeds £20 million.
