Man Utd Transfer News: Van Persie Must Choose Future

Van Persie must decide; remain at Arsenal, or join Manchester United.

dropping out of the race to sign want-away Arsenal Captain Robin van Persie, and Juventus enveloped in a miasma of uncertainty regarding manager Antonio Conte, it seems the Dutch maestro is left with just the two options. Remain at Arsenal, or join Manchester United. Taking all that has come before into careful consideration, it would seem highly likely that he will choose the latter option. He has already quite plainly refused to sign a contract extension at the Emirates, and in spite of Arsenal improving the squad with the purchases of Lucas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, it seems that will not be enough to convince last seasons Premier League Golden Boot winner to stay as he seeks success in the Champions League, a competition of which Arsenal haven't reached the final of in 6 years now. In fact, it's been 7 Years, 2 Months and 16 Days exactly since Arsenal last won a trophy at all. With RVP turning 29 today, his chances of ending his career in a flourish seem to look bleak if he stays put. United meanwhile have reached two of the last three Champions League Finals, and also look much better versed to launch a serious title bid than their London rivals, only missing out on a record twentieth league title last season on goal difference. With Man City apparently dropping out of the race to sign Arsenal's talisman, apparently unable to find suitors for Roque Santa Cruz, Emanuel Adebayor and Eden Dzeko to make the necessary space, plus the Financial Fair Play Rule coming into effect very shortly, that leaves only Juventus in the way of the player moving to Old Trafford. However, their coach Antonio Conte will likely have to stand trial on charges of match-fixing after the Italian Football Federation rejected his plea bargain deal. The allegations concern Conte's spell in charge of Siena when he managed them in the 2010-11 Serie B season, and he is likely to be hammered with a massive 15-month touchline ban for his failure to report match-fixing to officials. This seriously hamstrings The Old Lady's hopes of retaining their Serie A crown, as well as their ambitions in the Champions League. Conte would be allowed to coach his side, though he would have zero involvement on match days, rendering the side rudderless. This will certainly make RVP think twice about moving to a side embroiled in such turmoil, especially with the match-fixing scandals still concerning the country. All things considered, it would seem Manchester United's ship is the steadiest at the moment. Signing last seasons top goal scorer would be a huge coup for Sir Alex Ferguson. The Clubs owners the Glazer Family have been much maligned in the past for failing to bring world class players to the club, though Ferguson has always staunchly supported their ownership. Bringing the best striker in the Premier League to Old Trafford may just appease those who remain critical of the clubs ownership and direction.
