Man Utd Transfer News: Wayne Rooney Still Wants To Leave?

Daily Star. Chelsea believe they are in pole position to land the £25 million-rated striker if he decides to leave Old Trafford this summer after almost a decade at the club. United manager Moyes said earlier this week he had met the 27-year-old "three of four times" to thrash out his future, and also stressed that the £240,000-a-week marksman is not for sale. However, speculation over Rooney's future goes on as, crucially, the Scotsman failed to mention specifically if the player is happy at the club and still wants to stay. Moyes was expected to use the club's three-week pre-season tour of Asia and Australia to hold more talks with the ex-Everton star, but it was revealed last night that Rooney would be flying home after suffering a hamstring injury. A statement said:

"Following a scan on a hamstring injury sustained in training, it has been decided Wayne Rooney should return home for further assessment and rehabilitation."
He has been ruled out for a month and will sit out United's season-curtain raiser against Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield on August 11, the season opener against Swansea six days later as well as England's friendly against Scotland, which is sandwiched between those two fixtures. Chelsea were confident they could land Rooney when speculation about his unhappiness in Manchester first surfaced. The Blues will however have to compete with Arsenal if the striker becomes available, with their London rivals also interested.
