Manchester United are plotting a double swoop raid for Newcastle United duo Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba, according to a report over at Caught Offside.
Red Devils boss Sir. Alex Ferguson believes United’s centre-midfield positions and forward options are the two weakness areas in his squad and he has been impressed with Cabaye and Ba ever since Newcastle outclassed them in a 3-0 loss at St. James’ Park in January, a game where Cabaye and Ba both got on the score sheet.
Fergie knows he needs to add some proven quality to his squad after last season’s nightmarish conclusion where they lost the Premier League crown to the “nosy neighbours” Manchester City and crashed out of the Champions League in the early group stages. With Ba’s £7-9 million release clause, Fergie knows a bargain can be made there and the offer of Champions League football would likely be enough to tempt the Senegalese international who scored 16 goals last season to come to Old Trafford.
However in the case of Cabaye, Caught Offside claims Ferguson is expected to offer over £16 million to secure the French international’s signature, a fee that despite Cabaye’s great season, would be accepted instantly by Ashley who bought the 26-year-old for a fee believed to be in a £4-5 million range. Fergie is willing to spend that much money on the Euro 2012 star as he would come half as cheap as Luka Modric and is the box-to-box midfielder he needs to get the best out of Wayne Rooney. With Paul Scholes likely only sticking around for one more season, Darren Fletcher’s health problems making his future unknown, Michael Carrick not getting any younger and Anderson likely heading for the exit doors, Fergie is keen to land Cabaye and will likely pay over the odds.

It’s high time SAF bought a holding midfielder and another attacking midfielder to help kagawa. when that is done, we’ll be able to wrestle the title out of city’s hands next season.kabaye is a world class player who, with kagawa, will rejuvenate our midfield a lot. Fergie, go for the two players now.
Fergie does whatever he wants and he probably wont want to. It will take another empty season before he does what he should. Kagawa was our first midfield buy in like 6 years, hes not going to buy another. “no value” in the market. But obviously there is plenty of value in making millions of profit every year only to have it stolen by avaricious scumbags like the glazers, who are only there because of fergie. Thats why he wont have a bad word said about them. Hes tainted his united career. Busby still the best.
reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy hope so utd get these 2 and i agree like the price would suit us alot get both for round about 20odd million instead of getting modric at 35 to 40million and also sack rodriguez 40million pile of crap 1 assist in 30odd games no good these 2 are in premierleague already and like it says about cabaye and ba would love utd and newcastle would benift from our cash and surely sign more decent players 4 or 5 out the 2 leaving go FERGIE! SIGN THEM
Hi fergie, we really need high class in manu squard pliz do your best.shariffs kenya
Fergie we need high class players for next season. Pliz do your best.
Fergie pls buy Luka Modric.we need quality in that club. All the best!!!!!!
cabaye is a good choice but why are we not going for sneijder we’re a world class club and not enough world class players! Ba had a good first half season then what did he do after that……..? time we acted like the club we are and going in for the players we deserve.
two proven premiership players that would fit in perfect for man utd so saf get out the cheque book and start sighning or we let the blue half win again
16 million would never be enough for Cabaye. 25+ million would be more like it. Ashley hasn’t sold anybody he didn’t need to get rid of (to make sure pards has full control of the dressing room) except Carrol but it would have been stupid to turn down 35 mill. I honestly don’t think the press understand NUFC’s policy at all. Only ridiculously high fees will get any of our players.
To whoever said get both these players for 20mill…. get real. Cabaye would cost around 20-25 mill alone…..
I don’t think these players would fit in… Rather have M’Vila, we would have no problem outbidding Arsenal. And Huntelaar he’s 28 but we have all young strikers and they can learn alot from him.
£20 million wouldn’t get you Cabaye on his own , let alone Ba as well.I doubt whether Cabaye would leave the Toon just now , although Ba does seem a possibility , given his £ 7.5 M release clause, I just don’t see the club taking the risk on his “ticking time bomb” of a knee problem.
cabaye would be good signing with modric deal pulling out..but i would rather want james rodriguez on united shirt and at Old Trafford..he can give a lot to a club and for himself he can be best..so go for james rodriguez as soon as possible..
Cabaye is a great player and i would be more than happy if SAF signed him although as he said carrick will play a huge part next season i cant see it. i agree that we dont have enough world class players, also most of our players are either developing youngsters or golden oldies so we need more core age 24-28 year old players
The world coch, coch of cochiers pls try ur best 2 buy us gud players as much as possible.
We realy need a world class midfielder at old trafford, kudos saf.
I think United should try to sign Cabaye and Strootman. I think that’d give us some nice balance along with Kagawa.
