As the 2012/13 Premier League season draws ever nearer, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be ramping up his efforts in July and August to bring in the new recruits that can ensure the Red Devils don’t once again end up straggling behind the “noisy neighbors” Manchester City.
Manchester United’s well documented financial situation is obviously poor compared to most top teams, but Fergie does have some money to spend on new talent.
Here is a list of 10 realistic players that Manchester United should buy this season in order to reclaim the Premier League title;
1. Leighton Baines
Age: 27
Club: Everton
Position: Defender
It’s not surprising that Manchester United are actively looking for a replacement for aging French left-back Patrice Evra. His consistent performances and experienced defending has made him crucial part of United’s success over the years, although at the age of 31, his time at the top might be coming to an end and the Old Trafford boss has already signalled who his long term replacement will be.
Man United are believed to have made overtures this summer for Everton and England full-back Leighton Baines, with the Kirby born left-sided defender said to be interested in moving to Manchester. The sticking point has been over the fee with Everton believed to be holding out for £15 million as Baines has become a key man in the Toffees first eleven since his move from Wigan in 2007.
With this in mind and the fact Fergie has allowed youngster Fabio to go on loan at QPR, the arrival of Baines would be just what the Red Devils needed for next season. Fergie may have to sell some of his fringe players such as Anderson and Johnny Evans to fund the move and perhaps even cash in on Patrice Evra but the signing of Leighton Baines must be seen as a priority for United as they prepare for next season.

Ridiculous, author – none of these would even scratch the united FIRST TEAM, all of these are average 2nd choice type of players !
‘none of these would even scratch the united First Team’ – these transfers aren’t ridiculous they are realistic signings.
The players selected above all have great potential going forward, if you doubt players like Lewandowski and Baines even though both are potential targets for the club, then doubt younger talent such as Munian, Witsel, Zaha and Clyne then you will also have to question Powell and when United bought Anderson and Nani.
Munian has been in terrific form this season. I would easily pick Lewandowski or Rossi over Berbatov.
Also United need a midfielder, Cabaye or Tiote to hold the mid together is what United need when Scholes leaves. Every single player above is a realistic player United could sign, all these players can contribute in their own way to the club whether Baines is cover for Evra (as united have no one else), every single player can make a difference. I honestly fail to see how you would exclude some of these players
Axel Witsel is a ball winning midfielder, he’s no Paul Scholes, nothing like him. He’s a hatchet man like Nigel De Jong… Why would Ferdinand and Vidic’s age come into your thinking with Nathaniel Clyne? He’s a full-back he’s not a CB…
If United signed Clyne he would get far more of an opportunity to play football if Vidic and Ferdinand weren’t around. Yes he’s a right back and if Smalling had to replace either Vidic or Ferdinand and if Rafael needed a rest Clyne would be the choice.
Have you actually watched him play mate? Not exactly a hatchet man.. great touch for a big man.
As a Man Utd fan, your right. We need to start finding replacements for our old players and also find possible new transfer targets to replace some of our leaving players. In my opinion United need a new striker as first priority. United are too reliant on Rooney for goals and if he starts next season in bad form or gets injured, we will struggle for goals. Man city have a strike force which consists of Tevez, Augero, Balotelli and Dzecko and might even get RVP next season. City will probably outscore United for the coming seasons but if we get another proven goalscorer who can get us at least over twenty goals next season we will be in a good position. Rossi and Lewandowski are good potential signings as they are probably the cheapest for their ability being available in the low 20 millions. However, United were willing to splash out the cash for Hazard which would have been in the mid 30 millions for his signature. This shows that United could still buy a World Class player this summer. With Park on his way to QPR and Berbatov and Anderson are looking to be on their way out of Old Trafford, they can pave the way for new signings that United desperately need in the Left Bach, Central Midfield and Central Forward positions.

United should also look at Sahin from Real Madrid and also Tony Kroos from Bayern
We are very happy to see all these talent players in man united.
Baines, Lewandowski, Tiote, Cabaye – all fill a need within your team and are good options.
Rossi is too similar to Rooney and would not want to sit on the bench, Witsel i’ve only seen twice but he did nothing that stood out in either game to suggest he could hack it in the Prem. The other players would possibly get signed and loaned out again to get experience.
If i was Fergie, i’d look at Sneijder and pair him with a more defensive minded player in midfield (Tiote, stick with Carrick, or De Jong or similar ball-winner). Midfield is your greatest need and should be where you spend the most money for one or two top quality players.
Then stick with Welbeck and Rooney up front – sell (or drown or shoot) Nani and replace him with someone who a) can pass to a team-mate b) can cross c) can stay on his feet in a strong breeze (so not Ashley Young then!).
man utd need a playmaker likes of jaoa moutinho or modric and with them a talented striker ganso or lewandowski
I would sooner av rodriguez marauding down the left , and moutinho dictating the play in midfield , a proven player in moutinho and a fantastic talent in rodriguez , we may need a left back in a few years time but defo not baines he is to old , Pat is still good enough for me , Tiote looks ok 100 percenter
The rest you have named I agree with first comment not good enough and your reasoning is a mile off
great achieavement if feagie bring fresh legs
Cabaye/Tiote + Lewandowski + LeftBack are definately needed others…PASS…!
iove ot
sir alex you have to do something
A joke article. Ten new players would be unprecedented and require a huge sale of existing players. Are we to assume that United could not possibly succeed without all of these players? How about if it was just nine? And what about any other players who are bought? Can we have some serious articles please.
“straggling behind City”???! Let’s remember that it was United who threw the title away. We were home and dry before disaster at home to Everton and away at Wigan so to say we are chasing City is stupid. We are not 10 players short of them, we were in fact 8 or so goals behind them. They didn’t win the title by amassing more points! Let’s also remember that Fletcher and Vidic missed the majority of the season-could City manage 9 months without Kompany?! In fact I think they took 1 point from a possible 9 when he served his 3 match ban for being the clumsy overrated oaf he is. Sensationalist Journalism, poor technical knowledge. Ferguson never panics, nor should the fans. City will be duly despatched just like Liverpool, Leeds, Blackburn, Arsenal and Chelsea.
UTID
Utd need benzma
having Modric on the team would be fantastic, Daniel De Rossi would b a perfect replacement for Paul Scholes
Man utd should get lewandowski he is.a great prospect
united need modric in the midfield he ‘s a good player
hpe man u will buck up to over come our noisy neighbours dis season from kpakpo accra Ghana
Fergie u should not think of selling Evans and Anderson!u’ve not bought any midfielder and defender u want to sell d one we have pls don’t touch our Evans,Nani,Anderson, but if u must sell let it be Macheda, fletcher, and u should focus on buying a defensive midfielder and skillful midfielder also, and tell Valencia to start improving or else he’ll loose our love.
