2. Steven Nzonzi
Current club: Blackburn Rovers Probably a far cheaper option than Tiote, Nzonzi would nevertheless represent a significant boost to United's defensive midfield options, with his tenacious play and assured ability on the ball. It's for good reason that the Frenchman has been linked with a move to several top clubs this summer, with Arsenal persistently credited with an interest and the player's ambitions will seemingly push him towards the Ewood Park door, as Steve Kean has already confirmed that he has asked to leave. The manager spoke to BBC Radio Lancashire last week:
"He's asked for a transfer, hence why he never went to Austria. He doesn't want to play for the club any longer. I had two meetings with his father and he wants to play elsewhere. We'll be listening to offers, but as it stands, he remains under contract and we haven't had any offers at all."
23-year-old NZonzi, who signed from Amiens in 2009 was a was one of the only highlights of a dire season that saw Blackburn limp out of the Premier League without so much as a whimper. For good portions of last term, Nzonzi was carrying his team almost alone (bar the attacking influence of Yakubu and Junior Hoilett) and he likely still has his best years ahead of him. Any Premier League suitors will be able to offer him an immediate return to the top flight, and he would quite easily fit into a top four squad, without commanding a ridiculous transfer thanks to his club's current position. Right now it looks like the Frenchman may well be heading out on a season-long loan deal to Sevilla, but United could do worse than step in and keep him in English football. His experience combined with his ability and relatively low cost would make him an ideal solution to the perceived lack of depth in Sir Alex's midfield.
