Man Utd Transfers: Odds Slashed On Ryan Shawcross Move

Could Everton's loss be United's gain?

Just hours after a potential move to Everton evaporated with news that the Merseysiders couldn't afford his potential transfer fee, Stoke centre-back Ryan Shawcross might be on the move again. According to Sky Bet, the player started the day at 25/1 to join United, but since then his offs have dropped as close to 2/1, pushing them far into second favourites behind Everton - who have ruled out a deal - for the defender. The player started his career at Old Trafford but didn't make a first team appearance, having been sent out on loan to Royal Antwerp and Stoke before his permanent move to the Potters back in 2008. He might not necessarily be the classy sort of player some United fans might expect, but he is undoubtedly a talented defender and has the kind of steely style that would suit Van Gaal's need to add bite to his defence. And with the likes of Van Persie, Di Maria, Rooney and Falcao up front, it's very obvious that United will need a balance of brawn to match their technical flair. Otherwise the amount of money invested will be no more than a waste as the club continue to struggle defensively. Would you be happy with the signing of Ryan Shawcross?
