Man Utd Transfers: Red Devils Bid £47.4 Million For Arturo Vidal

United make renewed swoop for Chilean midfield dynamo.

Manchester United have launched a new club record bid to sign Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, as United boss Louis van Gaal looks to stamp his mark on his new club ahead of their league campaign this season. The 13-time Premier League champions have made a bid of £47.5 million according to the Daily Star, which would trump the club record transfer fee of £37.5 million they paid for Juan Mata in January if Vidal does move to Old Trafford. The Red Devils are thought to be offering to double Vidal's current wages to entice the player to move to England, with his current £60,000-a-week earnings increasing to £120,000-a-week if he decides to switch to the club. United have been linked with the Chilean international for several weeks, but with their interest rebuffed so far, it now appears that United are not prepared to walk away from their number one summer transfer target just yet. Vidal has developed into one of the top midfielders in the world in his three seasons with the Italian champions, winning three consecutive Scudettos and chipping in with 18 goals from midfield last season to help the Bianconeri retain their crown. The renewed interest comes despite reports that Vidal ruled out any move to Old Trafford last week.
