Manchester City: Have Premier League Champions Actually Had Disappointing Season?

Final Position: Champions So they did it, 44 years of (what I presume people call pain, however I can€™t imagine anything physically painful about not getting to watch better paid men than you lift a trophy) €˜pain€™ and Manchester City fans can rejoice in the fact that they are Premier League Champions, beating their historically much more successful local rivals in the process. However despite this, should Manchester City fans be disappointed with how their season turned out? They won the trophy, yes. However as their main competition was a club that has over £500m of debt, are in the middle of a transitional phase and they€™ve spent more money than a Sheikh billionaire would spend on a ... Oh. All in all, surely the Premier League should have been sewn up in March so they could focus on their burgeoning Champions League campaign which would best accommodate a club whose lowest paid player earns more than the population of the Democratic Republic of Congo in a year? However it was not quite like this, they had to wait for a goal in the last second of human existence to clinch the title which, when you consider their outlay and the fact their main rivals had to bring a man who can claim a bus pass out of retirement to deal with their mid season injury crisis, isn€™t really value for money. Sure they played attacking football for the first few months and at time have blown us away with some of their quality, but their inconsistency, the fact they had to rely on a player who openly disobeyed the manager to claw them back into the title race surely isn€™t what City should be getting for their massive influx of resources. The title is brilliant, however next season they should win it more convincingly, that€™s the only way to best show that their money is worth it because, to be frank, it should have been a hell of a lot easier than that. Summer Transfer Targets: No marquee signings, they need a quality defensive midfielder to take the place of Yaya Toure who should be moved to an attacking midfield role when Carlos Tevez eventually goes. That€™s the way to get the best out of him and best utilise their attacking options. Next Year's Target: Has to be the title, FA Cup and a run in the Champions League, something past the group stages would be nice.
