Newcastle Midfielder Set To Depart For £8m

Cabella's Tyneside nightmare looks like finally coming to an end.

Remy Cabella's move to Marseille looks set to be a permanent deal and not a loan, with The Chronicle reporting that the playmaker will depart Newcastle United for £8 million. That fee will also be deducted for the Magpies' financial package for Florian Thauvin - which is believed to be somewhere in the region of £12 million-£14 million. In conflicting reports, it has also been suggested that Cabella would head to Ligue 1 temporarily on a season-long loan deal with a view to a permanent move after. What's clear, however, is that the Magpies are keen to use Cabella as a makeweight in any deal.

Cabella endured a difficult first season in the Barclays Premier League, netting just once, and he looks set to return to France for a huge loss. It was claimed last summer when the midfielder moved to the North East from Montpellier that Newcastle had paid £12 million for his services - at the time a record outlay of the Mike Ashley era. Should both figures be correct, then the Magpies look set to recoup two-thirds of that now. And Cabella's time on Tyneside appears to be over.
