Newcastle Transfer News: Yohan Cabaye Wants Monaco Move?

The Sun. The French international has today been the subject of frenzied speculation that he is set to undergo a medical with the cash-rich Ligue 1 side, something of which his club Newcastle have strenuously denied. But the midfielder, 27, also a target for Manchester United, has fuelled the speculation by refusing to rule out the move. He said:

€œMonaco have the means to build a strong team. It might interest everyone.€
Some bookmakers have even suspended betting on the £23 million-rated French international's next club after a string of flutters on the player joining Monaco. Chris Spicer, of Sky Bet, said:
€œThe size of the stakes imply those backing are convinced a deal is set to happen.€
The ultra-ambitious French club are bankrolled by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, who has already splurged £110 million on Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez. They have only just been promoted back into the French top-flight but have already targeted winning Ligue 1 next season. Today, the Magpie's new director of football and former head coach Joe Kinnear commented that he was "confident" Cabaye would still be at St. James' Park next season. And that could lead Monaco to turning their attentions elsewhere. Their profligacy shows no sign of abating with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Saint-‰tienne another potential summer transfer target. But that would still come as a hammer blow to Newcastle who also have designs on the 23-year old Gabon international.
