NUFC Transfer News: Wolfsburg Beat Magpies To Max Kruse Signing

Newcastle United miss out on German international forward.

Newcastle United have missed out on German international forward Max Kruse after he agreed a transfer to Wolfsburg. The Borussia Monchengladbach striker had been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, and the Magpies were competing for his signature along with Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton. But the 27-year-old has agreed a four-year deal to move to Monchengladbach's German rivals Wolfsburg, who are currently second in the Bundesliga.
He will play Champions League football next season and Kruse said of the transfer:
"I am happy to take the next step of my career at Wolfsburg. The playing style fits me and the squad is brimming with quality. "I will now focus on my matches with Gladbach and then contribute after the summer break towards a successful future for VfL Wolfsburg."
Kruse, who has 11 Germany caps, has scored 10 goals in 29 Bundesliga appearances so far this campaign, and he has 58 strikes from 212 career appearances in all. He began his career at St Pauli before moving to SC Freiburg, where he spent a season, and then he signed for Borussia Monchengladbach in 2013.
