Liverpool's attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho told Sky Sports that he plans to give his "maximum" when playing for the Premier League side following a frenzied Summer transfer window.

The player handed in a transfer request to manager Jürgen Klopp just a few months ago and was the subject of three failed bids from Catalan giants Barcelona, including a final offer worth up to £118 million.

When Liverpool turned down the offers, it seemed like Coutinho would try to force a move away from Anfield. Instead, the Brazilian internationalist says he is eager to show the club's fans just how much playing for Liverpool means to him.

Choosing his words carefully, Coutinho said he wanted to "defend the colours" and admitted that any desire to leave Liverpool had "passed by" in recent weeks.

Coutinho has started the Red's last three matches and scored the equaliser during a 1-1 Champions League draw in Russia against Spartak Moscow on Wednesday night. That disappointing result leaves Liverpool third in Group E after two matches behind both Spartak and Sevilla.

Klopp's men now have just two points and are already two behind leaders Sevilla, but at least one of their star men appears to be back on track.
