Real Madrid Lead The Race For Argentine Star

Rafa Benitez giants say Lucas Biglia would be the "ideal signing"

Real Madrid have reportedly made a £15.6million bid for Lazio's Lucas Biglia, with the midfielder impressing for Argentina at the Copa America. The Italian club are looking increasingly likely to lose the player who was part of his country's World Cup Final defeat to Germany in Brazil last summer. In a report by the Daily Express, the Spanish giants are the first club to make an official approach for the defensive midfielder, as they look set to battle it out with Manchester United and Paris St Germain for Biglia's signature. However, Lazio are reluctant to lose the man who helped the club finish 3rd in Serie A last season, and with Champions League football on the way to the Stadio Olimpico it will take a higher offer to lure the Argentine to the Spanish capital. A fee of around £21million could reportedly tempt the Italians to move the 29-year-old on, who still has two years remaining on his contract, but that doesn't look likely to halt any further movement from the La Liga club. It's claimed that Biglia would be the "ideal signing" for Madrid head coach Rafa Benitez, who will be keen to improve his new team's midfielder after losing Sami Khedira on a free to Juventus earlier this month.
