Southampton Transfers: Filip Djuricic Deal DONE

Former Heerenveen signing ends Mainz loan early.

Southampton have now finally confirmed that Filip Djuricic has signed on loan for the remainder of the season after ending his loan deal with Mainz and joining from parnt club Benfica. The player had been spoken of in glowing terms in the past few years, but lost his way somewhat in Portugal and hasn't settled in Germany. He did score 20 goals in 99 appearances from Heerenveen and Ronald Koeman will be very familiar with what he can offer to Southampton after his time in the Dutch league. Quite how he will slot into the team remains to be seen, but it would appear that he's been ear-marked as competition for the attacking midfield roles behind Graziano Pelle to help him get on the ball a bit more. There was an option for Mainz to make his loan deal permanent for around £10m, so there is clearly some faith that he could get back to his best ability and Koeman will be hoping that he can revive the player.
