Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Confident Of Signing Roberto Soldado

BBC. Negotiations with the La Liga club have been progressing well and though some details remain to be agreed, the Spain international looks set to become the London club's third summer signing. Soldado, who scored 30 goals in 46 appearances last season, would join Corinthians midfielder Paulinho and FC Twente winger Nacer Chadli in joining the White Hart Lane club should a deal be struck. It is understood the 28-year-old's potential signing has no bearing on whether or not Gareth Bale will leave the club, with the Welsh midfielder continuing to be heavily linked with Real Madrid. Any move for Soldado would smash the club's transfer record and could cost the Lilywhites £26 million, with Valencia holding out for the player's full release clause. It was also thought Spurs could face competition from domestic rivals Liverpool in landing the striker, with the Reds apparently earmarking him as a replacement for Luis Suarez. Tottenham's interest in Soldado comes as they missed out on Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, who has decided to stay at the Midlands club in spite of handing in a transfer request earlier this month.
