Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Plotting £12 Million David Villa Swoop?

David villa Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is set to swoop for Barcelona's £12 million-rated David Villa, according to the Daily Star. In the wake of their Champions League humilation by Bayern Munich, the Catalans are preparing a big rebuilding process and Villa is thought to be one of those set to make way for new signings. Sources in Spain suggest Spurs have already made a bid of £10 million for the Spanish star, who has a contract until next year but will be allowed to leave a season early. London rivals Arsenal have also been monitoring the 31-year old, and were strongly linked with him throughout the January transfer window but have so far stopped short of making any offer, with the Gunner's thought to be keen on investing in younger players instead. La Liga side Atletico Madrid are also in the running, and have already had a £9 million bid rejected by Barca. It is thought they are keen to bring in a new forward in the event Radamel Falcao is sold this summer. Villas-Boas wants Villa to add some much needed firepower to a side that has relied far too heavily on PFA Player of the Year Gareth Bale this season, and hopes signing Spain's all-time leading scorer will help persuade the Welshman - who has been linked with a move away from the club - to stay.
