Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Target Leandro Damiao & Roberto Soldado?

Leandro Damiao Tottenham are preparing a £36 million double-bid to bring Leandro Damiao and Roberto Soldado to White Hart Lane in a bid to persuade Gareth Bale to stay with the club, according to the Express. Chairman Daniel Levy has been urged by manager Andre Villas-Boas to spend big this summer or face losing the Welsh winger. Negotiations with Leandro€™s club Internacional have reportedly already begun and the Brazilian has been a long-term target of the North London club. They attempted to sign him on transfer deadline day in January but failed with a £16 million bid. They are hopeful however that a deal can be clinched within the next fortnight. Spurs are also in talks with Spanish side Valencia over striker Roberto Soldado, who has impressed this season having scored 22 goals. Were Tottenham to secure both players, the total outlay would amount to £36 million, which is unprecedented expenditure for the usually cautious Levy. However, Villas-Boas is anxious to strengthen his squad having seen his side miss out on a top four spot for the second season running, and also at the prospect of losing Bale. Tottenham are still hoping they can persuade their star player to remain at White Hart Lane and are set to offer the player a revised deal worth about £165,000-per-week to keep him at the club for at least another year. But they will still have to convince him that they are serious about rebuilding their squad and becoming serious title contenders in the long-term if they wish to retain his services for the foreseeable. Bale has admitted he found the heartbreak of Tottenham€™s failure to qualify for the Champions League hard to take, and any future set backs in qualifying for Europe's top club competition could lead to him seeking pastures new. Meanwhile, striker Emmanuel Adebayor will be sold if the right offer comes in, while Scott Parker, Tom Huddlestone, Clint Dempsey and Benoit Assou-Ekotto will be made available as Spurs seek to fund moves for the new players.
