Spurs Transfers: Pochettino Wants Free Agent Jonas

Tottenham set to rival Benfica for former Valencia forward.

According to the Daily Star, Spurs are showing an interest in Brazilian striker Jonas Gonçalves. The 30-year-old would cost nothing, as he is a free agent following his release from Valencia last month, and would also be able to sign immediately. The forward is also thought to be in talks with Portuguese giants Benfica over a switch to Lisbon. Tottenham are currently short of options in attack, with Mauricio Pochettino having only three men to choose from to spearhead the team - the temperamental and inconsistent Emmanuel Adebayor, Spanish flop and former team-mate of Jonas Roberto Soldado and the young and inexperienced Harry Kane. As a result, the Argentinian boss is thought to be considering bringing the player - who can play in an advanced midfield role or up front - to North London. Jonas had been at Valencia for three years prior to his exit earlier in the summer and he had netted 46 goals in 106 starts for the Spanish giants, after joining from Gremio in 2011. Prior to signing for Valencia and prior to his spell at Gremio, Jonas had plied his trade for Brazilian outfits Santos, Portuguesa and Guarani earlier in his career. He has eight caps for the Brazilian national team, for whom he has scored twice since 2011. So what do Spurs fans think of this potential signing? Would Jonas be an ideal short-term option, at least until the next transfer window opens? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. And please feel free to follow me on Twitter!
