Steven Pienaar Rejoins Everton On Loan From Spurs

Everton pull of a last minute coup to resign Steven Pienaar on loan from Spurs, as Bassong joins Wolves on loan until the end of the season.

You have to wonder why they have a transfer deadline when there are teams like Tottenham who so flagrantly ignore the rules almost every year... This time round, Spurs have allowed South African central midfielder Steven Pienaar to return to former club Everton on loan for the rest of the season, with the deal still being drawn up after the 11pm deadline bell rang on Big Ben. Everton fans will no doubt be happy to see Pienaar return, after a largely unsuccessful time at Tottenham, to cap what has been a massively successful late transfer window for the Merseyside club. Having already signed Landon Donovan on loan from LA Galaxy and Darron Gibson from Champions Manchester United, Moyes moved to bring in Rangers' talismanic striker Nikica Jelavic for around £5.5m and Pienaar to make it an important final day for the Toffees. With the added strength through the attacking end of the spine of the team, Everton will now no doubt move into the final months of the season with massively boosted confidence, especially after tonight's 1-0 victory over a lack-lustre Manchester City side, thanks to a goal from new signing Darron Gibson. Meanwhile, Tottenham also allowed French defender Sebastien Bassong who hasn't made a positive impact at White Hart Lane since joining from Newcastle United 18 months or so ago, to leave for Wolves, with another loan deal to the end of the season signed.
